THE CHILD, THE WOMAN, NINE POLICE and A GERMAN PASTOR
Monday, April 2nd, 2012No one in public life has condemned the police for their actions in the case of Gail Sheridan. She is one of my friends and political enemies.
Nine police raided her house when they knew she was alone with her three year old daughter. They showed no concern that the child was terrified. They took many of Mrs Sheridan’s possessions including her collection of miniature whisky bottles which have never been returned. They announced publicly that she had been charged with theft although no one had complained of theft. Her employers suspended her, as chief BA Steward flying out of Glasgow, until enquiry showed there was no substance in the police allegation. Then she was reinstated.
She was acquitted of all charges in the High Court. The Crown withdrew the charge of perjury against her. They knew no jury would convict her and her husband together. It’s a dirty crown trick. I fought it all my professional life.
The BBC published some of her private diaries and interview tape to which they had no likely access except through the police.
Gail Sheridan has complained to all the sources possible. They have said the police have done nothing wrong.
I have asked my two MSPs and my local Councilor if they approve of such police action.
Mike Mackenzie MSP wouldn’t speak out.
Mike Russell MSP wouldn’t speak out.
Councilor Louise Glen-Lee wouldn’t speak out.
The Justice Secretary wrote to me saying he had no power over the police. (I knew this. None of us would be safe if he had. I wanted him to speak out against such action.)
I think I wrote the Lord Advocate. If I didn’t now is his chance to condemn the police. He had plenty around him on 22nd February when
he met Dr Jim Swire who lost his daughter Flora at Lockerbie. He
claims to be independent of the police. Let’s wait for him to speak out.
Who can Gail turn to now?
Who can I turn to now?
Who can any of us turn to now?
First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
When I write something that displeases the police who will speak out for me

Christine Graham:
I have removed comments on this MSP not because she is SNP or because I support or reject criticism against her.
I cannot verify the allegations made in the comment so I have removed it as I would remove any comment against anyone which I cannot verify.
I know of no editor who would not do the same.

My blog doesn’t have an index. If Angus searches back he will find I have previously written a great deal about the Megrahi travesty of justice.
I have written in a legal magazine about it more than once.
What more do you expect from a man of 86? I want time to rest and listen to some music.
One piece a month is about all I can manage. Over to you youngesters.
