    Read it on the Scottish Review with a deal of pleasure, Ian. I like it more when you are scatological rather than eschatological and trust this will not be your last piece.

    Ian,

    As an Irishman born and bread but living abroad, I wish you well. Thank you for this essay. I will always be Irish. You will always be Scottish. No foreign rule will ever change that, though I hope the referendum goes well.
